The International Day of Charity, observed on September 5, was established by the UN to raise awareness of the importance of giving and to encourage charitable activities around the world. For us at SGB Czech Trafo, this day is a chance to reflect on where we were able to bring support over the past year — whether through financial donations or by lending a helping hand ourselves.

Nominations from our colleagues

Every year we select four organizations to receive a financial contribution for their operations or development. The choice is never random — our colleagues nominate organizations that are close to their hearts. This way, every donation carries not only the company’s name but also a personal story. Last year, for example, we supported:

  • Day Care Centre DC 90 in Topolany near Olomouc
This centre helps adults with special needs to develop their skills and integrate into everyday life. Their greatest passion is cooking — they regularly gather in a training kitchen to prepare meals together. Our colleague Michal first donated professional chef’s clothing, which brought them great joy. We then followed up with financial support so they could purchase new kitchen equipment and continue their activities safely and with pride.
  • Olomouc Zoo – support for the Amur leopard
The idea came from our colleague Lubomír, an animal enthusiast and expert on the local zoo. Thanks to his nomination, we donated CZK 25,000 for the care of the Amur leopard, one of the rarest animals in the world. Fewer than 120 individuals remain in the wild today. Our contribution covered approximately one month of feeding costs and helped protect this critically endangered species.
  • Hospice at Svatý Kopeček
The hospice provides care for terminally ill patients and their families. Their work is extremely important and sensitive, offering relief and support during the most difficult times that many of us cannot even imagine.
  • Prázdná kolébka (Empty Cradle)
An independent organization that supports parents after the loss of a child. They offer professional counselling, a safe space, and human understanding so that families do not have to face their grief alone.

The nominations from our colleagues showed us that help does not always have to be visible — but it can mean everything to those who need it most.

Helping with our own hands

At SGB Czech Trafo, our support is not only financial. Whenever we can, we also engage as a team. Last year, we took part in clearing up after floods and in tree planting during land reclamation. These are moments when we pull together not only at work but also in helping people and the communities around us.

Responsibility as our pillar

Responsibility is one of the pillars of our corporate culture. We see it not only as responsibility towards our customers and products but also as a commitment to the communities in which we live and work. That is why charity and helping others are a natural part of who we are.

Again this year, our colleagues are nominating organizations they feel deserve support. We are already looking forward to seeing where we can make a difference together.
